Xcel Energy will construct and operate approximately 15 miles of new natural gas line between southwest Boulder County and the city of Black Hawk. The project is known as the Tungsten to Bobtail Natural Gas Project. The natural gas line will be installed between the proposed Tungsten above-ground natural gas infrastructure in Boulder County and the existing Bobtail natural gas infrastructure in Black Hawk.
The new natural gas line will be constructed as part of Xcel Energy's commitment to system revitalization. The project will allow Xcel Energy to continue to provide safe, reliable natural gas service in Boulder and Gilpin counties.
Xcel Energy identified the project route after an extensive routing process that included coordination with local jurisdictions, evaluation of resources potentially impacted, consideration to reduce or eliminate environmental impacts and consideration of engineering feasibility. The majority of the natural gas line will be located in existing utility corridors and roadway rights-of-way.
The project team will continue to work with applicable jurisdictions during the project. The project is currently in the permitting phase.
Construction began in May 2019 and will continue through 2019, completing in 2020. Find out more about the anticipated Tungsten to Bobtail Natural Gas Project schedule.
